How should you take Cannabidiol oils?

How should you take Cannabidiol oils?

April 04, 2019

CBD comes in many forms,   oils, capsules, gummy bears, lollipops and the list goes on.  Often many ask questions regarding the best way to take CBD.  That's a valid concern as CBD unfortunately is not the cheapest and we want to make sure we get the most benefit possible from these oils.

Our digestive system offers a hostile environment and our livers are constantly filtering out any substance from our body.  If you hear about a first pass effect, that's the amount of a substance that the liver eliminates on the "first pass" through it.  The following will merely discuss the different means of administration and in no way should be construed as medical advice.  You should make the decision for yourself regarding what route you think is the best for your situation.

INTRAVENOUS-  100% bio availability.   I do not recommend this route.  Moving on.

SUBLINGUAL- up to 35% bio availability.  This is the most popular method and is rapidly absorbed and impacts the body faster.

ORAL- up to 20% bio availability.  This involves all the edibles.  Absorbing CBD by ingesting it results in up to 20% of it being available as it has to survive the environment,  pass through our digestive systems, and be absorbed.  Not the most efficient method but certainly the tastiest.

INHALATION- up to ~55% bio availability.  by Vaporizing CBD, it enters the lungs and is rapidly absorbed and provides near immediate benefits.  This is the recommended option by many individuals but I still prefer sublingual personally.

TRANS DERMAL about 45% bio availability.  Trans dermal patches can deliver a steady dose of medicine over a long period of time.

NASAL about 40% bio availability-  Nasal sprays are another option for obtaining CBD as the mucous membranes can readily absorb CBD.

RECTAL-  >60% bio availability. The large intestine in responsible for absorbing water and is an efficient method of CBD absorption, if you don't mind a suppository.

There are many options available to you as a consumer and we at Peyt's Promise are able to obtain all of the above methods of administration with the exception of the intravenous route.  Our most popular routes with our customers are oral in the form of edibles and sublingual.
